Winter Decor Mixes Neutrals & Pops of Color
It seems like everyone started decorating for the holidays early this year. For those last hold outs, Thanksgiving is officially behind us, there are no more excuses! It’s time to break out your winter decor. It’s easy to get overloaded on red and green this time of year, so we’ve been looking for inspiration in other places. This photo drew us in with that gorgeous plaid, wool blanket and all the shades in the warm wood. It’s giving off the cozy, stay-at-home vibe that feels very on brand for 2020.
How can we use this winter decor palette in a pattern?
When we’re working with neutrals to color a pattern, it can be tempting to keep out the color altogether. Plenty of people love neutrals. They don’t want to commit to a specific color in a space or feel like they’re constantly trying to match a color every time they want to add an element. Neutrals can be beautiful for that purpose, but they can also get boring or flat with no contrast. By adding a pop of color to a pattern, the eye gets a break from all the neutrals. Done well, a pop of color can even highlight the neutrals without overpowering them. Likewise, pairing a strong color with a neutral instead of another color can also add interest to a pattern without making it multicolor.
