Revisit The Cryptology Collection

At NeoCon 2021, Design Pool unveiled The Cryptology Collection. Even though it was our first time exhibiting at NeoCon, this collection made an impression. Metropolis Magazine named the Radio Waves group as one of their #MetropolisLikes products. Ahead of NeoCon 2022, we think it's a good time to revisit The Cryptology Collection Let's revisit The Cryptology...

International Women’s Day Spotlight

Photo by Kristen Julianna Photography This International Women's Day, I'm thinking of the women who inspire my work. In The Woman Who Smashed Codes, by Jason Fagone, I first learned about Elizebeth Smith Friedman. She and her husband invented the modern science of cryptology and used it to crack enemy codes during both world wars. Elizebeth was a true trailblazer. Learning about her work and how she used pattern recognition to crack codes, inspired Design Pool’s award-winning collection, The Cryptology...

Classified, a Video Guide to the Collection

When designing the patterns in The Cryptology Collections, Kristen used a unique technique she developed exclusively for this collection. Kristen created a collection of patterns, each containing a secret coded message. In the case of Classified, the messages reference terminology used in the building and breaking of codes. Beginning with those coded...

Want to give codebreaking a shot?

When we read this book by Jason Fagone about Elizebeth Smith Friedman's work codebreaking, we were quickly bitten by the cryptology bug. Months later, that inspiration manifested into The Cryptology Collections, a collection of pattern designs inspired by code. What about you? Do you want to give codebreaking a shot? Before you get started, let's define a few codebreaking & building terms. Cryptology: the scientific study of cryptography and cryptanalysis Code: a system of symbols (such as letters or numbers) used...
